I have 2 problems with "floating thumb"

1. Where should my thumb be playing a A string on a 4 string? cant get it comfortable

2. Cant get a loud noise out of my G string, its just quiet, any advice? Thanks Lotsa

As above, try placing your thumb on the E string.

What kind of bass do you have? The G string issue could be related to pickup height.
