| | | | I Have a Ton More Admiration for Greg Lake Just listened to "Bullfrog" on the Works Vol. I album, and he rips through a bass solo that I never thought he could do. I always knew Lake was good, but I don't think I've ever really heard him do something like that. The guy can shred.

His Bass line, acoustic guitar, lead guitar and vocal on "From the Beginning" is masterful too. |

| | | Yeah, I think I'm going to buy tix to see him when he comes to Atl. on April 26. His site says that on this tour he's playing all the hits from King Crimson and ELP. That should be an awesome show.

Sounds like a great concert. |

Many of his lines in ELP were written by Emerson, but were also rather unconventional (for rock) and demanding. Not helping his bassist recognition cause is the fact that he plays 6-string and sings lead. He can also lay back and support, as he did for the Who, on "Real Good-looking Boy," letting Zak Starkey take a Moonie turn, and staying mostly rootbound.

I listen to his playing on Brain Salad Surgery's "Karn Evil 9 - Second Impression" and cannot believe how fast and clean he sounds is on that track. Don't believe me? Try playing it for yourself. Greg is wayyyy overlooked among GREAT bassists.

I'm 45 yrs. old,but I've never really listened to any of his playing, besides what's been on radio over the years. Can anyone suggest some good clips on Youtube,or something? Maybe a drums & bass solo piece from him and Carl Palmer? I couldn't really find anything.
Thanks,
Steve |
