I just saw Victor whack a $9000 bass on the ground

It was painful to watch. I think it ended up OK. It was his Yin Yang and it kinda got away from him.

I have seen him put on a cheap bass an really whip it around. First time I have seen him go so all out on a Fodera.

You'd be surprised; he probably can't.

I bet he flushed when he realized what'd happened. Did he continue to play like Victor, or did he calm down with it for a second to regain his bearings?

Was it the original Yin-Yang, or one of the copies?

Perhaps Vic has had a lower-end YY made for "show events" such as this. On the recent Nine Inch Nails tour there are crates of Squire Strats to smash during "Head Like A Hole" and throw out to the audience*. I'm glad Trent learned to do that and not 3K custom Gibson Les Pauls.

*For people who are thinking "A beginner could use that to learn on", NIN routinly eBays smashed guitars and donates the profit to NOLA rebuilding and Katrina relief. $9,335 has been rasied, and for that I can stand to see a low-end Dean being crunched.

It was his number 1 YY.

It was during the encore... his solo in Sinister Minister. You never would have known except I saw it hit. He finished the tune like nothing, but when it ended, he was checking the headstock. He said afterward that he thought it was OK.

It was a great show... Just one of those take your breathe moments at the end... Most people probably never noticed.

i took my fodera for some adjustment to back to the factory 3- 4 weeks ago and i saw a ying yang bass there but it was not new so i asked the guy whos bass was that and the guy that was working on my bass said " oh here hold this bass this victor's main bass he broke its neck and its in for repair.he gave the bass to the crowd and someone broke the neck off.then he gave me a pice of metal and he said hold this and i was like what is that? he said :man you are holding victor's nut!

The YY bass has had its headstock broken off before...the repair is solid. There are no copy-YY's that Vic has....just the original 4 and 5 stringers.

He was doing that thing where he whips it around and back, and then spins around inside it. Then he takes it off and whips it by the strap and throws it out towards the audience but catches it near the bridge at the last minute.

During that whipping it by the strap part, it kind got away and came around too low and hit the stage at the headstock near the D string tuner.

I am not sure if it looked worse than it was, or it was worse than I looked, but I know I sucked in some serious air when it happened.

Yeah, Trent Reznor used to hang out at my next door neighbor's place sometimes. Used to watch him walk in and out, but never had the balls to say hi. I gather he's a N.O. native.

Nope, he's actually from a little town about 50 miles outside of Pittsburgh. In high school, he dated a girl who later went on to become a calculus teacher at my high school (and earn a PhD in mathematics AND coach cheerleading). My connection to Trent Reznor through Ms. Krouse means I'm no more than three degrees away from just about any entertainment-industry figure. It's hilarious.

BTW, Reznor was having serious heroin troubles during the last few years he lived in N.O. You may want to be a bit leery of your neighbor.

I doubt neighborhoods of TR's socio-economic level (his house sold for 1.9 million) brings heroin to your doorway.

He's freely admitted that living in NOLA, while loving the city and its atmosphere, was an attempt to "stay away from the industry" and isolated, issues that fed his addiction and personal issues. He moved to LA to finish "With Teeth", to be in better control of his "music business" (read up on the lawsuit) and to distance himself from "hiding" instinct in the winter of '04/'05.

...and I’ve hear it was Coke and a major-league alcohol addiction that were his vices, although it was a infamous Pulp Fiction "oops, swapped heroin for coke.." moment that led to his overdose.

yeah.... lot of guy sin Victor's shoes really have to hustle to pay the bills, because not many of their individual gigs really profit as much as you'd expect.

He endorses Fodera so he probably CAN afford it. Vic has a slew of basses just like Stanley Clarke does. He may have sentimental values toward the original, but I doubt he can't afford to buy a slew of new ones, he DOES have a subsantial amount of endorsements and seems to be virtualy on tour all the time. Even if he DID pay for 'em I dont think he would pay what you or I would have to,remember, he is Fodera's most popular endorser.
