Yes,
I met Carol Kaye today, truly amazing, also I had no idea she played jazz guitar so well.

She is extremely nice, and boy when it comes to jazz theory she is as sharp as a tack.

Great pic! That must have been cool to talk to a legend like her. When you stop and think about it, she was quite the pioneer. An excellent bassist in an era when there weren't many females holding down the bottom. And she did it so well. That's a picture you can talk to your grandkids about!

Me, I'm not as fortunate as you. The most "famous" person I had a picture with was when my band played a gig with then Attorney General Janet Reno as the guest of honor.

yea, when you think about it 10,000 sessions, that is amazing, and quite a testament. I bought her Jazz guitar book, I was pretty bowled over by her jazz guitar playing.

Oh yeah, her guitar playing is as impressive as her bass playing in my book.

The True Tone Truetonanny!!

I was there, but got there after she'd left already. I got to meet and talk with her a couple months ago at a clinic she did at McCabes Guitar Shop. She had so many cool stories to tell about those session days.

As a female player, I have much respect for Carol. She not only helped pave the way for the rest of us, but she was out front with a bulldozer. She's allright in my book

::EDIT::
Sneckumhaw, I think we've got the same book!

She started out as a session guitar player.

I really don't think you'll find anyone who doesn't admire her.
I know I do.
A very solid player.

Now that you said that a "Does anyone not like Carol Kaye" thread will probably pop up.

I met Carol at NAMM around 1978 or so. She was doing a Music Man endorsement playing a 'Ray through an HD-130 driving a 212RH. Her timing precision is awesome, and she comes up with all these cool licks. I learned so much from her column in Guitar Player Magazine back in the '70s that I think most of my bass playing, my theory chops, and my teaching methods are rooted in her (along with Howard Roberts' column in the same magazine and Jeff Berlin's in "International Musician and Recording World").

She can sometimes come off as argumentitive and a bit acerbic. While I love her playing, her passion for teaching, and respect her wanting to have the records accurate, I don't beleive she played as many of the Motown tracks she claims. And her attitude towards folks who respectfully disagree can be very off-putting.

Like most human beings, she's not perfect. I continue to respect and admire her.

Oh, let's not.
Whatever the specifics are, she's done a ton of great work. Good job Bob, meeting up with a legend!

That trio record she did called "Thumbs Up" contains some of the finest jazz bass playing I've ever heard. She's amazing.

+1

Fine playing, impeccible sense of timing. Not even a drummer. Hope there's a Thumbs Up 2 some time in the future.

The Bernadette debacle aside, she is a very fine musician and has a flair for tasteful, efficient playing. I like her jazz guitar playing a lot (probably more than her bass palying...). Thumbs Up rock.

Anyone that sounds that good through a guitar amp, with a pick, is awesome in my book.

Did you rock Janet Reno's face off? If so, then that's a success in my book.
