I met Martin Turner the other night...

Went to see MT's Wishbone Ash thursday night. I know it's not the 'official' Ash, but they have only one original member and I'd much rather see Martin and friends than Andy Powell and friends.
Anyway, great show! They played two sets, the first was an assortment of Ash songs from the ages, the highlights being an unexpected 'Everybody needs a Friend', and an incredible version of 'The Pilgrim'.
Second half was 'Argus' in it's entirity, followed by 'Jailbait'.
Martin's bass tone was incredible as expected, he's still with the Tbirds but now uses an Ashdown and Hartke amps and Ashdown cabs, and it really was the 'classic' tone from all the old albums.
He stood about for ages chatting to everyone, regaling us with stories and anecdotes, and came across as a genuinely nice bloke. He signed my copy of 'Argus' and shook my hand.
I left happy.

I am thoroughly envious and jealous. Well done!

Wow, great stuff! I wonder why Wishbone is never considered to be in the top tier of classic rock?

That has a silver lining though, we get to see them in small intimate venues rather than god-awful arenas!

+1

Martin has influenced both my playing and my choice of basses since the early 70's.

Congrats on the experience and thanks for the report!

Great story! WA are woefully underrated. Martins playing was a great influence on me, although I do love 'Argus', my favorite record is still the first one.

And I'd much rather see Martin & Co. than Andy & his crew too.

Give a listen to New England sometime. It's getting to be my favorite.

New England is so overlooked I absolutely love it. Front Page News has some great tracks too, but isn't quite the opus NE is. Anyone in the UK should check out Ashboneuwish if they get the chance, great band and right on the money tributewise, their bass player even depped for Bob Skeat in A Powell's WA.
