I Ran into Victor Wooten Today-Literally

Sign in to disble this ad
So, I had just finished up a lesson and decided to swing by Sam Ash on Dale Mabry in Tampa, and there were a whole bunch of people in the store. I asked the counter-person what was going on, and she said, "Victor Wooten is here."
Can you believe it??? What luck.
He was with Anthony Wellington, and they did a 20 minute jam, then proceeded to do a 2 1/2 hour Groove Workshop.
For free!!!
It was only supposed to be 2 hours, and went almost 3.
Very cool.
I'd be checking out the Hartke/Groove Workshop/Sam Ash tour for more dates and locations, if I were you. He's out there sharing the Groove.
Later.

He was getting swarmed for autographs when he was selling his Groove Workshop DVD, and giving away posters. It's probably hard for most to imagine people swarming you, for anything. I know it would be weird for me, but with my bass skills, probably don't have to worry about it.

I'm seeing him tomorrow at a clinic.

One time a friend of mine were in a music store in either Orlando or Atlanta and he was in there. I remember hearing someone playing and I thought, "Who on earth is rocking out like that in this store?" I noticed a crowd starting to gather to watch Mr. Victor Wooten.

Free to you. He asks Hartke 1,000 dollars for every one he does.

The store closed at 9:00, and he was there til' well after 10:00, so he definitely didn't do a Diva appearance.
He also gave an endorsement for Hartke, which is part of their sponsorship, but Wellington mentioned he uses Aguillar, but likes the Hartke. Wooten also said to buy Hartke if you LIKE it, not because he's promoting it. Wooten said to buy what sounds good to you, not what he tells you to.
He was pretty cool about the product endorsement.

That's cool, but at what point did you "literally" run into him? I figure that's got to be a pretty good story!

Literally running into him would be making actual contact.

In any case, it's a cool story.

Victor Wooten's going to be doing a show/workshop in the mall here in Myrtle Beach on Monday. I couldn't believe it when I saw the sign for it in the music shop last week. I can't wait to see Victor, man.

It's very cool that he's reaching out and sharing the knowledge.
He really interacts with the audience/workshop attendees.
He brought 4 different people up to play. Can you imagine sharing the stage with him??
He was cool and supportive, but pushed people to think and feel outside the notes and scales into feeling the Groove, which is his major point of expression.
Anthony Wellington is very cool, and offers some different perspective, but is on the same page as Victor.
Enjoy, all.
