I Saw Nathan East with Herbie Hancock

Really good show in London last night - at the newly opened and massive Roundhouse in Camden http://www1.roundhouse.org.uk/ - it was a great gig but the most pleasant surprise was Nathan E - he laid it down sweet and sang his heart out - Herbie's set was a little strange but then he did a vocal album recently 'Possibilities' so it wasn't surprising he wanted to do some vocal stuff - but it took some real balls for Nathan to absolutely nail 'I Just Called To Say I Love You' - specially arranged by Herbie - in front of such a massive crowd - shame he didn't really take a solo though. Anyway great gig - one thing I want to know is what auto wah pedal does East use? It sounded wicked...they finished with FULL version of Cameleon...sweet!

Cheers

Mike

PS It was Vinnie Colaiuta onb drums and Lionel Loueke on guitar - both were brilliant as well.

I've always wanted to see Nathan live.

How was the Bona concert? Was it his band doing his music. I LOVE his four solo CD's... beautiful writing, singing and playing.

Wow

Wild that Herbie goes from Garrison to Nathan East, can't think of two more different bassists!

Bona was wonderful and his band was great, they where playing his music and he did a Jaco tribute on his NYBW fretless that was great, he played "Amerika" and a bit of "Continuum" solo and then the whole band went into "Three Views of a Secret" his fretless tone was perfect.

during "Amerika" someones foot squeaked on the floor and he coppied that on his fretless, everyone laughed, its great how he can just have so much fun and be serious about the music at the same time, but you could just tell that he was having a great time throughout the whole show

Sorry to hi-jack the thread a little Mike
