I saw richard Bona and Tony Levin Last night

I travelled to NYC last night (1 1/2 hrs away from Philly, where I live), and I saw Richard Bona with Silvain Luc at 7:30 PM, then I went to the Iridium and saw Steps Ahead with Tony Levin playing electric upright bass and stick, and finished the night going to smalls jazz club until 3AM, coming back to Philly at 3:30.

The richard Bona Concert was excellent, a LOT better than the last time I had seen him. He played his 5 string Fodera, and also played guitar.

The Steps Ahead concert was very good as well. Tony's performance on the EUB was good, but watching him play the Chapman Stick was out of this world. It is cool that they played in such a small venue, because it gave me the chance to talk to most of the members of the band (including Tony)...
* By the way, Victor Bailey was in the audience, and he also went to see steps ahead at 10:30 (If I had known I could have shared a cab with him)

I live in Philly, which is less than 2 hours away from Manhattan, so I go there pretty often. I'll let you know if something interesting is going on in town.

I think that tonight (Wednesday 20th) Mike Stern is playing at 55 Bar with Tom Kennedy on bass. I saw them there last week Monday and it was amazing, so if you are in town tonight I would highly recommend this show. Unfortunately I won't be able to make it...
If you are taking the subway you gotta take the 1 to Christian Street. 55 bar as well as Smalls jazz club (for a late night show) are less than 1 block away from the station.

so not envious!!!!

Two of my favorite bassplayer!

Ive been to 55 bar a couple of times. Great music. I saw Wayne Krantz with a Le Fabreve or something on bass. Pretty good!

Pretty good=stupid out-of-this-world good, if you know what i mean. Just struck me after seeing my original post that i cannot use that term "pretty good" when musicians are at that level. I'm a pretty good bassplayer but no way as good as these guys. Its like the Super Bowl vs Little league in a very small town with only one team and all the kids calling the coach for Dad 'coz he is!!!
