A long time ago I thought Pete Wentz was the best bassist alive. That was before I started playing bass. Now I see him as one of the most overrated. I can't really call him a bad bassist, but he is pretty overrated, and I'm tired of hearing people say how he is so good.
Just a rant. Feedback would be nice. |

Other than that, I don't spend 10 seconds thinking about him. Don't wish him any ill will, but not a fan.

I like the song but his bass work is definitely nothing special. That's why he seems to be disliked - he's rich and popular without being talented. Life has ever been thus.

I don't think anyone would ever call Pete to guest on their Super Bowl Halftime show. I think Flea is still pretty much the main person in modern rock known for being a bassist. I really don't know if anyone has entered the public consciousness on the instrument that strongly since him (In radio friendly rock music, outside of the musician community). Maybe the cat from Muse.
My thoughts on Pete are he's actually a pretty unique lyricist who got very lucky to team up with a very talented singer/songwriter in Patrick Stump. He's obviously just a serviceable bassist, and he'd be the first to tell you that.
Nice guy though, he used to shop in my store all the time before he moved. Barely a hair above 5'4'' too. |

Although he's probably better than me.

| | | | I like his bright, fat, slightly dirty tone but that's about it. I took me all of 30 seconds to learn one of his most popular bass lines, and the pentatonic scale I warm up with is more interesting. He's over-rated as a pop star but has never received much recognition from fellow musicians because of his simplistic style. |

I wonder why TB folks who don't like fretwanking, also don't like this guy???... he seems to be playing exactly like some TB members say a good bass player should play.
I myself prefer fretwanking.... It's a lot more interesting than Pete Wentz-ing
