I think Jaco is still alive.

At least, part of his spirit lives in this man:

Kai Eckhardt of Garaj Mahal.

Plug in the band to Pandora.com and listen in wonder.

He's a great player! Thanks for the link, dude - I've long wanted to look into that band. Only too bad that the first song to come up was 'Cosmic Elevator'... Man, I just wish that ride would end REAL quick!

Call me crazy....but I don't remember Jaco slapping.
Hahahaha. Great bass player though, seriously. This is some great music, but Jaco isn't exactly the kind of player that comes to mind when I hear it.

Yep, the slapping is not very Jaco - that particular album or band is probably not the best choice to make that comparison. Still, I must agree with dharma, having heard Kai in other situations. His fretless/ballad tone is spot on. For more Jaco-like playing, check out his own stuff or even his work with John Mclaughlin (only watch out for old school slapping and human beat boxing here too!).

Kai is amazing and definitely has his own sound... but about 6-7 years ago I met a cat in Boston that I could have sworn was Jaco (in the posthumous Elvis-kinda-way)... his name is Danny Pena...

I saw them once! Stevie Ray was sitting in that night

edit--Oh my god. Can you imagine what would happen if SRV and Jaco had jammed together?

If you think Kai, sounds like Jaco?
Check out Richard Bona.

Saw a video of him performing with a big band at a Jaco tribute. He had all the Jaco signature licks down, only on a 6 string. Same tone too.
