Identify Paul's bass

I love this song; it was one of the first I learned to play, and it taught me a lot about how a simple groove can take you a long way. Love that thumpy, palm-muted pick. But what bass is Paul playing? It's not his Ric or his Hofner; the lipstick pickups almost look like a Danelectro, but the headstock? (DrMcCoy) "Dammit Jim, what IS it?" (/DrMcCoy)

Looks like an old Kay bass.

Yes, it's an old late 50's early 60's Kay.
I read somewhere, that these were going to be reissued?

I think the question real question is... Who was the magician that edited the beginning of this video?

No idea. The slo-mo start does kinda suck. Really cool video once it gets going, though.

Kay. Thanks for the ID. I had no idea that Paul ever used a Kay bass, and it's not mentioned anywhere I've ever read about his gear. I guess we learn something new every day.

Kay re-issue

They are to re-issue what they call their Jazz Special bass. It was supposed to come out last year and did not. Then they were supposed to be shipped in Feb 11 and did not. I'm on a waiting list and the last email I recvd said they are set to arrive at the end of March. Not holding my breath and now the GAS may have passed (no pun intended).
