If Jaco Pastorius was alive,
would he be playing either 5 or 6 string basses?
Comments?

Jeff is a brilliant player, but is not known for being a really outside-the-box innovator, especially in terms of gear.

Interesting thought experiment.
One the one hand, Anthony Jackson was pioneering the 6 string bass while Jaco was still alive, but to my knowledge, Jaco didn't get into that area.
OTOH, Jaco was interested in new technologies, as evidenced by his early partnership with Hartke.

But he's not still alive, so it's just a thought experiment.

If my aunt had balls, would she be my uncle?

Seriously dude, IMO, it's useless to think of hypothetical situations. It's fun, I know, but that's not leading anyone anywhere.

I'll bet 50 bucks he'd be playing 5 strings tuned EADGC, though.

I still wouldn't care what the answer to this question is.

My guess is that he would be the face of Fodera along with Victor Wooten, Anthony Jackson, Matthew Garrison, etc., which means he probably would own at least one 5'er or 6'er.

He also played a 5 string acoustic.

I do. I mean, I'm a hardcore Jaco fan and I wish he got the help he needed and didn't go down the path he did, or at least I wish he never went to that nightclub where he ran into Mr. Luc Haven. I like to think about what he might be doing right now, just out of pure love for the guy's musical gifts he shared with us. He was a big influence on me and died way too young. Too bad. It's a shame really.

If Jaco was alive, hopefully he'd be on medication and have had gotten help for the obvious problems that plagued him in his latter years.

...I could give 2 E-strings if he was still playing bass, so long as he was healthy and happy.
