If Jaco Pastorius was alive,
would he be playing either 5 or 6 string basses?
Comments?

Still playing his 'Bass of Doom'.

Interesting thought experiment.
One the one hand, Anthony Jackson was pioneering the 6 string bass while Jaco was still alive, but to my knowledge, Jaco didn't get into that area.
OTOH, Jaco was interested in new technologies, as evidenced by his early partnership with Hartke.
But he's not still alive, so it's just a thought experiment.

Seriously dude, IMO, it's useless to think of hypothetical situations. It's fun, I know, but that's not leading anyone anywhere.
I'll bet 50 bucks he'd be playing 5 strings tuned EADGC, though.

I mean, I'm a hardcore Jaco fan and I wish he got the help he needed and didn't go down the path he did, or at least I wish he never went to that nightclub where he ran into Mr. Luc Haven. I like to think about what he might be doing right now, just out of pure love for the guy's musical gifts he shared with us. He was a big influence on me and died way too young. Too bad. It's a shame really.
R.I.P. JACO

...I could give 2 E-strings if he was still playing bass, so long as he was healthy and happy. |
