If Primus didn't have Claypool

If Primus didn't have an insane bassist such as Les Claypool and had just an average bassist, would you still listen to Primus?

Primus would not have existed without Claypool forming it (with Lalonde) in the first place, so, no.

Claypool is Primus to me. Ler, I could do without. Herb, well, I prefer hearing him play with Attention Deficit.

If Primus didn't have some interesting basswork I'd have no reason to listen to them, as I fidnd a lot of their songs to be rather naff, as in, lacking any great ideas.

The idea of a carrot bass player seems strangely appealing...

Les is the reason I started listening to Primus tbh.
Tommy the Cat ftw.

Claypool is way overrated, with or without Primus.

Primus, and Claypool, started and ended with "Sailing the Seas of Cheese." Anything after that. . .

Carrots.

Yes, Les formed Primus, but not with LaLonde, but with Todd Huth (sp?). Listen to the Sausage CD to hear the original Primus lineup. LaLonde's Primus style is heavily influenced by Huth.

Basically, if Primus did not have Claypool, Claypool would have about six side projects, but none of them would be as good as Primus.

Primus has always been a favorite. Tim and Ler are among the best musicians out there and would do well in any other band, but I'm sure even they would agree without Les on the bass and his quirky creative style, there would be no Primus.

Claypool is Primus. End of discussion.

What would be the point? Without Les they'd be just another wierd jam band from the Bay Area. Great. Just what the world needs.

On the other hand, if they had a vocalist who did Psychotic Southern Vaudevillean as well as Les, they might still be good for a laugh.

they wouldve been more thrash metal without claypool...thats what ler's side stuff tends to be like, and i believe tim played with a perfect circle for awhile...neither of them wouldve gotten too big without les though. imo.

That's a ridiculous question. Les started Primus. Les, Ler, and Herb blend together perfectly. You need that combination there for Primus to work. Just listen to the Brown Album :\
