Tough call but I may have to go with Paul McCartney, the guy can do it all (sing, guitar, keys etc.) with style and MELODY!!!!!!!!!!

I know it will be said a ton, but Victor Wooten.

IMO, he is the epitome of the perfect bassist.

Understandable, but there is something about some players who don't usually "shred" that can lay down the sweetest/coolest lines that just stay with you you know???

Sting and McCartney both have that gift

Donald "Duck" Dunn when he backed up Otis Redding at Monterey Pop in '67. Great energy.

I don't know his work quite as well as I should, but I probably step in Jamerson's shoes.

Joe Gittleman (the Bass Fiddleman) from Mighty Mighty Bosstones

or Nathen Maxwell from Flogging Molly

....but I'd just want to be either of these guys for a night or two, so then I could go back to being a fan!

Pino Palladino by far. I love all kinds of music and he plays all those masterfully.

Don't know anyone else who can be a neo-soul master, carry Jaco's fretless mantle, AND play for the Who.

Steve DiGiorgio without a doubt. Who else has played in Sadus, Death, and Iced Earth?

+1 for Victor Wooten. Anyone who can handle the Flecktone's stuff is the best IMHO.

Id be John Paul Jones... There's a bassist who REALLY does it all. Bass, piano, mandolin, drums, every other instrument ever invented.
