If you still have doubts about Flea...

Prepare to be converted. Wowsers. He's got the chops, and this just proves he is one hell of a pocket player. You don't have to like the music to appreciate. 2:49 is just ridiculous!

People have doubts about Flea? Huh... Well, I'm not one of them. Good stuff from way back.

Sounds good even with their amps turned off and not plugged in!

That's what made me want to play bass.

Here's a very little known fact about flea. He can play excellently left handed also.

Yep! Flea and Les, then Jaco, Vic, and all the rest that I discovered later. I still go through phases where I sit down and jam to the old RHCP stuff.

No. The band before them had a lefty drummer and they asked Chad if he could play that way so they wouldn't have to reset the drums up. He argued and said, "Why don't you ask the rest of the guys to just play their instruments backwards!!!???". They all thought it would be fun, so they agreed, and the whole band did the induction ceremony left handed.

That's what I thought -- glad I'm not the only one who noticed that.

Oh and that's John on guitar.

To the OP: Great clip. I hadn't seen that, and Mother's Milk is the first RHCP album I bought. Very cool.

@ 2:25 there is a tight shot of Flea. Stage lights show the GK on his stack backwards. Nice try though.

They edited that in after the filming because the chili peppers wanted to remain humble about the fact that they could switch back and forth so easily. They also didn't want people to start requesting that they play lefty, because it wasn't as much fun and they had to think a little more.

it's all in this interview: www.rhcpiner........%006.htm

And to make it totally official they had their tech's re-glue the names of cab/amps backwards to complete the experience!!

Ya know, it really would have been a lot easier to just switch the drums around. I guess they got caught up on an idea and just ran with it.

I don't think anyone ever doubted Flea could play! He's miles ahead of probably 99% of the rest of the bassists in his genre of choice! For that matter Chad is a bad-@$$ himself!
