My wife and I came to Newport today...only to find that Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, the original line up, are playing now...and we got 5th row center! Crazy! |

Of course everyone played fantastically, but IMO Howard Levy stole the show. He was just beaming with energy and did his crazy multi-instrumentalist thing so well. The best part of the night was when Abigail Washburn's band came onstage, and Vic and John Estes (I'm guessing) traded back and forth on the double bass...it was quite fun to watch. Unfortunately I was way to slow on the draw with my phone and missed a shot of it. Johns bass remained intact (for those familiar with his disaster).
Vic played what looked like a newer Fodera Yin Yang, a natural finish fretless 5 string with what looked like a "C" on the headstock, and a beautiful blue fretted J style 5 string. Kind of looked like a Nordstrand that I've seen before, and had a fantastic sounding B string.
My mom was also there and said "that bass player guy did things I didn't know you could do on a bass". Too funny. |

I came within a foot of Victor one time before a concert in town. He was walking around town with his bass on his back, I was walking around town. Suffice to say - I didn't know what to say.

When I say tiny, it's basically a gutted old house. Holds about 250 people. The musicians have to walk through the front door and through the crowd to get to the stage. Killer time. He hung out afterwards and talked to everyone.
Drop him an email - he usually responds back.
