My Father's friend is in Paul Carrack's band, and is going to get me some backstage passes for when I go see Level 42 in October! MK is my favourite all-time bassist so should be good. I'm planning on taking the back electronics plate off my bass for him to sign. Looking forward to it!

Has anyone else had the opportunity to meet their all-time favourite bassist?

Nope, but I'm gonna be seeing Level 42 in October too. I don't care if people say they're old hat, they rock!

Newcastle, at the Sage in Gateshead. I discovered the gig relativley late, but still managed to bag a seat on the edge of the 4th row, center block. Should be good! Plus, since I'm going alone, I can cheer as loud as I want!

And, like you, I love Trace Elliot and also GAS hard for a Pangborn Warlord! I recently had to turn down the chance to buy Kingbass prototype #4, what a gutner!

No offense to Mark King fans, but I'd much prefer to meet Paul Carrack- a great vocalist and "How Long" and "Tempted" are two classic recordings.

I had a few pints with Adam Cleyton (and his brother Sebastian, who, incidentally ain't a half bad bass player himself I believe) in Dublin (where I live!!) back in 1993 when the band I was playing in at the time were gigging in a place called the Baggott Inn. He hadn't been there since they (U2) played in the late 70s, and was doing a memory lane thing with his bro. Spent the evening talking about how Guinness goes through you, how certain brands of cigarettes cut the throat off you, and, at one stage asked him meaning of some lyrics ("Don't ask me! I'm just the bass player!").

Also met John Illsley (Dire Straits) in Dublin in 1991. All I remember is thinking "God!! This dude is tall - MUCH taller than he looks on T.V.!!). Anyone know what he's up to these days?

it was "hard luck" as such, I could afford it but was thinking "I've already got a Kubicki, so this is probably gonna spend a lot of time sitting cosy int he case". And since, I was desperatley wanting a fretless and was unwilling to desecrate Rob's good work, I decided to pass the offer.

Got my tickets, and looking forward to it - one of my all time favourite bands that I was too young to appreciate the first time round. I was thrilled to hear they were touring again - looks to be a good lineup with Mike Lindup back in the gang, and Gary Husband on keys. I'm hoping that they'll reincarnate a lot of their earlier funk/fusion stuff, because their later pop years were what let the band down.

Congrats on being able to meet Mark face-to-face, let us know how it goes.

Wait, Gary Husband on keys? i thought he would be playing drums (though I know he is a top class piano player). That said, I woudln't say the pop years let them down. Stuff like Lessons In Love, Fashion Fever, the Guaranteed album, it was great!

That said, if I was given the chance to meet Jonas hellborg, Stuart Hamm or Geddy Lee, I would in a second.

I also understand that 'Boon' will be making an appearance in the tour

Had a chance to meet Chris Squire a few years ago. I actually got to have a little 'chat' with him. After I talked with him I had a short (but great) conversation with Jon Anderson and Rick Wakeman. But those guys don't play bass.

Same with me. I really hope we hear some of the old classics from the Early Tapes, Level 42 etc. (especially Mr. Pink!). However, seeing as the new album is out on the 18th, they will probably mostly play that stuff. You can hear it on their website, and to be honest it's not great, but a mix of that and the early stuff would be good. It's too poppy for my liking, the later stuff. A shame that a band so instrumentally brilliant turned into a pop group. For me it's worth going just to a) see Mark play b) possibly hear a bass solo and c) meet MK. Even if the material is not of my preferred L42 era.

I think the new album is sounding great, really hard hitting Level 42 stuff. I like the early tapes and I love the eponymous debut, however. I guess I'm happy to listen to any era of Level 42, because what the musicians brought to the band really elevated them over a hell of a lot of other "pop" groups. Not sure they're better than Erasure mind.

BTW Chris2112, Does your band have a website? A mix of Rush, jazz fusion and shred sounds like my kind of fun!
