Like the title says I'm in a musical rut and cant find any good new bands to listen to, with good bassists. So I come to my trusty TB brethren to help me on my quest to find some new bands with good bassists.
Please help me, I've been listening to the same bands OVER and OVER and OVER again recently and its getting really annoying
So hit me up with some that that Prog Metal/Hard Rock/Prog Rock
old or new bands are good, but I perfer new(so that way my theory about most bands now-a-days sucking wrong)
oh and please no Tool or Dream Theater...got enough of them already :/
I'm looking for bands like Tool or Dream Theater but not them XD
i dont want EXTREME hardcore metal where the singer is just yelling at the top of his lung and you cant understans anything..even if the bass is good i cant focus on it
i want the deep heavey bass sound of tool but also so nice heavy guitar
Thanks in Advance
bands prefibly on the heavey side XD i like my metal heavey

Their bassplayer is the real deal and writes KILLER lines and bassist should appreciate. I started listening to them a few years ago and have since become a better musician.
They're aren't exactly metal, but they rock hard! |

Bass player (Ryan Stasik) starts with a mean progressive metal type structure that fades into some nasty mean funk around 1:30.
The tone on his Lakland 55-94 is undeniably killer at this part, some nice fades into some fingerfunk and a climactic ending that leads into a harmonic outro.
Some of the best improvisational music ive seen in a while
a must watch

ive also never heard jesu just heard OF them but a lot of people seem to really like them =x | Can't argue with anything on this list. And yes, Jesu does indeed rock. If you ever enjoyed Godflesh, it's the same guy.
I would also add the Melvins, Big Business, Lightning Bolt, Russian Circles, Pelican, Kylesa, Beard, Shellac (or any Albini project), and Disrhythmia to name a few. Also, check out Oxes. No bass player, but they still do some interesting stuff. Hell, while you are at it go get some Jesus Lizard. David Wm. Sims has awesome tone. |

They get very heavy, even though there are occasional sort of quasi-metalcore breakdowns, if you really listen to it, it's very good stuff. Check out the newest album Colors (the only one I have, but I've heard some of the other stuff as well, which is quite good). |

If your into Neo Prog or feeling for something less heavy definately try "snow", "The light" or "beware of the darkness"

Marillion -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P89yCN1zVyg -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xeoxxpVUQgs -- these guys have been around for more or less forever and have more sides and sounds than more or less anyone. Basically the best guitarist and frontman ever. I saw them live yesterday and it was the best gig I've ever been to. Never laughed so much too
Dredg -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1Hn0yv5148 -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ALJwgdaisio -- not really heavy (though they have some heavy songs), but they're more bits of metal and prog rock mixed with bits of jazz and... stuff.
Check them both out!!!!

Ayuh, Dan's the Man. His work on Colors is great, and the same goes with Alaska. He's more noticable on Colors, I'd say. I can't remember if he recorded Silent Circus or not, he may have joined the band after album was cut.
If you like Prog Metal, pick up Colors now!.
Also, check out A Wilhelm Scream, Protest The Hero, and The Red Chord.
Furthermore, and I do really hope this suggestion is unneccesary: Pantera, and Down might as well be thrown in there.
And just for the hell of it (as far as I know, there is no bass player in this band ): Pig Destroyer
So you know, all links go to the band's MySpace page. |
