Hello, if you can check out "the Word" or any of the recordings he made with Shawn lane. Also "Aram of the two rivers" is good. Better yet, check out the Live in Paris DVD.

I just downloaded his Little Wing, awesome, I plan on using some of the concepts. (I love using little Hendrix bits in solos.)

I like the trio live albums of his best with Shawn Lane/Jeff sipe, Check out Personae and Temporal analogues in paradise Both live albums.

Great improv from 3 superb musicians.

Be sure to check out:
'Good People in Times of Evil' - Jonas on ABG, with Shawn Lane and Selvaganesh (the trio at the heart of the 'Icon' CD).

'The Word' - Out-of-print, but you can occasionally find a used copy on ebay. Jonas on ABG, the legendary Tony Williams on drums plus a string quartet. Great compositions and playing. Probably his best album.

'Paris' - DVD of the lineup that would later record 'Icon', playing material from the 'Good People...' album.

www.jonashellborg.de is a good fan website with plenty of video clips. Amazon has soundclips of most of his CDs (even some of the OOP and hard-to-fine ones).

+1 to this, but I also like

Michael Shrieve's Two Doors (with the Lane/Hellborg/Shrieve trio). OOP, but awesome.

Ars Moriende with Glen Velez...solo acoustic bass and percussion

The Silent Life...probably his best solo compositions

Octave of the Holy Innocents is cool too.

Forgot to mention that Abstractlogix.com has some great Hellborg concert footage to watch:

A trio from early 2004 with drummer Jeff Sipe and Paul Hanson on amazing FX-soaked bassoon:

(Have heard that a more recent date by this trio was filmed for a future DVD release.)

Hellborg, Shawn Lane and Jeff Sipe from 2002:
