I'm sure being a bassist messes with your head.

Custom Basses - To me, most of these are wonderful works of art. I decided to show a couple of pics of them to my friend ( not a bassist) and I say something like " Look at that beauty!" and he looks at it and replies. " Looks like ****-stained chipboard."

I looked at it harder, and several times over. It really did. It was just an odd shape bass with a monster neck and some naff looking wooden top.

And effects. Lots of 'interesting' bass effects out there that may sound good to you or me, but to other people won't they sound a bit odd? Especially bass synths and the like.

Just my little revelation i'm having here.

Hehe, I've seen plenty of basses here that looked like dogbarf on a piece of wood.

To each their own I guess.

Is this a case of being so close and involved that you lose objectivity?
Like a best friend advising you against a girlfriend. Infatuated, you can't see the truth.

By the way, I recently read a Herbie Flowers interview where on the subject of advice to beginners he said 'even if you don't get to play every day, take it out of the case and look at it'.
I like that.

However, some people just have no soul.
