Important and influencial players of the 50s

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm writing a paper on the history of the electric bass and it's influnence on popular music. I thought it was a pretty easy topic for me, I know what I'm gonna say about the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s but I lack alot of knowledge when it comes to the 50s.
So, if you were going to pull out some of the most importaint and most influencial bass players of the 50s, who would it be?

Thanks for your time.

Is this just electric or does it include upright?

I don't know about 'influential' as I'm not of that era, ut these fellows were certainly visible:

Jet Harris, of the Shadows (Cliff Richard)

Bill Mack and Bobby Lee Jones (Gene Vincent & The Blue Caps)

Al Pompilli (Bill Haley and the Comets) - supposedly the first musician to play bass guitar on a Comets recording session.

...and Joe Osborn switched to electric bass in the 50's.
