Just one of the best and most MUSICAL Bass solos.
Ever.
In the history of the universe. | Great solo, but I was refering more to improvisation over chords.
I will change the thread title |

But always that Woods head. |

Dave Holland, Steve Swallow, Christian McBride, Ray Brown, Ron Carter, Niels Henning Orsted Petersen often play very melodic solos. They each also play 'chops' solos when the setting calls for it. I think, for a Bass player, fitting into the musical situation is an essential skill.

On electric - maybe Jaco? Surprised no one has mentioned him. And also some of Gary Willis's work.
And +1 to the poster who mentioned Victor Wooten when he's NOT doing his thumb thang - I saw him with the Flecktones in the 90s and was staggered by his lyricism when he chose to play that way. |

Many play both, Electric & Double bass. You can hear the difference between a 34" string & a 42" string. The 2 instruments sound a little different. Did you ever notice how rare it is to hear a Double Bass on a Rock or Fusion recording? EBG is the tradition for Rock/Fusion.
That should not stop you from playing Jazz on an Electric Bass Guitar. It is the note(s) you play that make the music.

In the history of the universe. | Tried to download this via Zune and of course they don't have it that really infuriates me - if you are offering music on line then offer all of it or point me to where I can get it if your site does not have it. /soap box
