I'm just wondering what makes him a world record bassist. While his style is unique I find his playing sloppy and not as fast as advertised. Not saying he's a bad player but he's definitely not a world class player, IMO.

What is the record? He does not seem to be faster then Billy Sheenan or even wooten?

while being 'proclaimed' the fastest bassist is really not a world record that is going to secure a bunch of gigs or is anything to brag about, the time sigs that he pulls from Carnatic music is cool. He is more of a tabla player on bass. The solfege that is used in Carnatic music is very good for working out odd meter.

Percussionist Trilok Gurtu (son of Carnatic vocalist Shobha Gurtu, kind of a 'big whoop' in southern Indian classical music), uses it very well on his own solo fusion albums and with John McLaughlin.

Can't say his playing really moves me, but I like that he explains the rhythm construction for those that would like to bring that style of music to other genres

His playing leaves me cold, but it's obvious that he has a tabla background (how could you not have that background, being from India?) and he is leveraging that against his bass playing. Cool stuff with the odd meters, but aside from that, I can play faster and cleaner slap. One of these days I'll have to throw a clip up on Youtube to prove it. Think "Mark King machine-gun triplets". Also, I've seen so many great players play faster, more fluidly, with more tone...a handful to listen to would be:
Victor Wooten
Mark King
Les Claypool
Brian Bromberg
Stanley Clarke

I can't stand his tone, but I admire him for trying to play in that crazy signature.

+ 1 on "cool that he's applying Mrdungum techniques and Karnatic rhythms to bass"

I've got an old Tabla player bandmate (who's since moved to the East Coast) coming for a visit next week, and I've been looking forward to playing some crazy odd times with him.
