Rarely anything unusually distinctive, but every once in a while a little bit of Percy Jones slips out

Blip! Bloop! Bwaaaaaarrrrrrr POP!!!

The expressions on my bandmates' faces are absolutely priceless

A lot of the playing I think of as "my" sound came from trying to play like this:

jonatha brooke - how deep is your love? - YouTube

and not quite making it.

Rumor has it Jonatha played bass herself, which I am pretty sure is true.

I've been told I kind of sound like Tim bogart. I had never heard of him until I got that comparison from someone. Then I started listening to him and I take it as a huge compliment!
As for my influences, they vary significantly.
Early on it was flea, Geddy, Jaco, claypool.
Started getting more into Chris squire, P-nut, Stuart zender, and dirk lance. Then I started listening to progressive metal, and guys like Arif mirabdolbaghi, Dan Briggs, Ryan martinie, Tom Murphy, John myung, Colin Edwin, et al. Started playing fretless bass, and started listening to Mick Karn, Percy jones, Jeroen Thesseling, Gary Willis etc. started playing jazz and I got into Ron carter, Mingus, Patitucci, ray brown, etc.

Do I sound like any of them? Probably not, lol. Do I sound like I draw a little bit from each of them? I hope so.

I think my biggest influence is Joe Principe. My style is very similar to his (or, in other words, I copy him because I have no talent :P)

I sound like me influenced by Geddy Lee, Ross Vallory, Rocco Prestia, Jimmy Haslip, and I'm sure a few others.

I have honed my on style.I mostly use finger style playing and I am guilty of the Jamerson hook at times. Since my sound comes from my fingers I sound like RTS

I try to sound like myself.. I often try to imitate John Paul Jones, usually failing in the attempt.

I probably sound like the opposite of James Jamerson. I guess my tone influences could be traced back to Tool - Lateralus / RATM - Evil Empire. I don't play like either of those cats but use mids for articulation and a little bit of tubey OD.

Because my lines tend to be very melodic, more than a few fellow musicians have compared me favorably to Sir Paul... Nothing to sneeze at there! Less obvious are the major influences of Mike Rutherford, Sting, and Nick Seymor, with a touch of Geddy and Tony Levin thrown in.

That reminds me of something someone said to me a number of years ago when my jazz band was on tour of the Midwest. We show up at some club in Canfield OH and these young kids, just barely old enough to play in clubs, are moving some equipment on stage.

"Are you the headliner?" one of them asks me.
"Yep," I reply, "Are you the warm-up act?"
He says -- with a completely straight face -- "Yes. We sound exactly like Soundgarden."
