Sign in to disble this ad
My brother, who is an excellent metal/jazz fusion guitarist, has a studio in his basement. He makes alot of money, unlike myself lol. He does alot of recording and he wants to do a metal project. His question to me and now mine to ya'll is he digs the tone of the cat that plays bass for sevendust. Can any one enlighten me as to what gear this bro uses. thanks!

He is a Gibson and Peavey endorser. He has a sig Les Paul bass, made by Epiphone I think. I saw in an interview somewhere that he uses Peavey MAX preamps for live work, but it's anyone's guess what he uses in the studio.

Does he like the tone on the studio albums, the acoustic stuff, or live? I would say that the vast majority of the time the tones he's getting could be cop'd by just about any gear by rolling off the highs and boosting the lows a bit. He also plays with a pick, so he may be getting a little more percussiveness than a fingerstyle player with a soft attack. For ease of purchase/rental/availability, I'd say a run of the mill P bass should cover it.
