A few weeks ago I was turning through the chanels on tv and willie nelson and cheryl crow were performing together. I watched for a bit. I looked for the bassist and saw a long white bearded bassist. I watched most of the show with Leland on bass. Id never realy seen him perform and he looked like he was have an awesome time. He was using that bass he's famous for. The one with musicman man electronics and fender parts. Setting on a stand behind him was a crazy two neck bass that Ive seen pictures of.

Something I found interesting listening to the interview was - how young he sounded. I'm not sure what that means but, I expected someone older sounding.

He sounded like a kid full of energy. He was funny - he's probably a pisser on the road.

I agree. I was sent a link to the interview by a fan who's a TOTO fan; we'd just been talking about him and I'd said I didn't know much about him other than his beard. So he sent it to me, and I found it cool to hear an interview with someone who just seems like a "normal" guy. In most interviews I've read or listened to or have watched, it seems like the person interviewed is talking gibberish; like they wanna be real cool or something. And I end up not getting anything from the interview. But this one was real cool, he just explained things like he was the guy who lived in the house next door or something.....

I met Leland Sklar at NAMM 2 years ago. My girlfriend wanted to get a picture of him and I, although I'm really shy about approaching legends. I asked if I could get a picture with him, which he of course gladly obliged. As I put my arm around him, I jokingly said "maybe I can get some mojo and smokin' groove to rub off on me by touching you". He replied "Brother, it goes both ways."

Man, is he humble.
