Introduction to Funk - What CD would you reccomend?

Sign in to disble this ad
All,

I'm looking for suggestion about a couple of CDs that could introduce me well to the world of Funk/Jazz-Funk.

What I'd like to start with is something "easy listening" , possibly including some good vocalist, but otherwise I?d be also ok with instrumental only. Clearly....something wiht a good bass

Any suggestion ?

Thanks in advance, Paolo

The Meters - Look-Ka Py Py
Groovy laid back funk. Should be a good introduction and definition.

I'd start with James Brown. Not necessarily easy-listening, but has great basslines, and I'd say he qualifies as a good vocalist.

James Brown, definately! The Crusaders, The Meters, Parliament/Funkadelic, Curtis Mayfield, Herbie Hancock, Lakeside, all come second.
