Hi folks

I was just studying for a big exam tomorrow, had my I-Tunes on shuffle and there it was !...I had always loved this record, never really focused on the bass line....Ernie Isley put this together !
Do any of you play this in a band , or not?.....I am not a trained or skilled player, but the bass line, and the fingering I am using to copy it, seem unusual , if not unique, ...is it just the drugs?.

AAAaaannnyway,

If you have not listened to this in a while, give yourself a treat....perhaps some kindly sort will post a link to YouTube for it
I think there's a version where the Bros. are rocking those bad capes

Cheers

I've played that in several bands throughout the years. Pretty simple bassline. 1969. Ernie filled in on bass when the session bassist didn't show for the recording. He was 17 at the time.

I LOVE that line - yes it is simple, though like much funky stuff, it is ALL about FEEL.

A great foundation to add your own touches to - I like to do a little trill along with the horns during the verse at the end of the main line.

Must go listen to it now

I used to play it in a band. Or not. Wait, now I'm not sure, it was many years ago. I know we played a bunch of Isley Bros. material though.

Check out "Fight The Power", I know we definitely played that tune, and it has a stone-cold jackhammer groove.

ERNIE Isley played guitar and drums on the Isley Bros tracks. MARVIN Isley played bass. I wasn't aware the enie played bass (at all) on this particular song. But Marvin was quite good and very underrated. Check out Footsteps in the Dark and For the Love of You
