Hey guys.
Just thought about some great Japanese Rock bands out there with some good bass players.
----------------------------------------------------
l'arc en Ceils, Tetsuya Ogawa. Hes a fantastic melodic player who writes most of the music. He has many of his own Signature ESP basses. Though in the studio he uses exclusively Zon basses. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=45a4Ou2g-ps http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ByKsfPSLMeY
----------------------------------------------------
How about some Visual Kei Bands. Such as X Japan.
Taiji Sawada Was a fantastic bass player. He had some brilliant solos to put towards the music and fitted the band well. His replacement heath wasent so well recieved and allways thought inferior. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ShzKXPsl-y0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2j4tZRDt3U
----------------------------------------------------
Casiopea Japanese Funk band with the legend that is Yoshihiro Naruse on bass. He is probably one of the most outgoing and fun bassists to watch in the world. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FU6yUhJJSs0
----------------------------------------------------
And lastly the bubble gum pop of relatively new band MARIA. They have to hot bass players both doing lead vocals as well. http://youtube.com/watch?v=HDseKw1-m2o
----------------------------------------------------
Has anyone else got anything to add the list? I am stumped as far as new J-Rock/Pop bands to get into. Its hard to find the material and CD's |

Guitar Wolf, Teengenerate, Supersnazz, the 5.6.7.8s, the Pillows, Noodles are some of my faves that are currently in existence... They all have great bass players who are proficient in their respective contexts, whether old school garage rock or heavy power pop...
I saw Noodles in S.F. a couple weeks back, three girls, on guitar, bass, and drums, and they all sing too... lots of great harmonies... Their bassist played a Rickenbacker... They are kind of like the Breeders, soundwise.

I don't really listen to them but the bassist Yukke of MUCC is fantastic. |

I watch that video, just for the 10 second bass solo.
daaaaaaaaaammmnnnnnnn that guy is fast.
There were instructional videos, from Kra's bassist, on youtube...but they've been removed.
It's a shame, because that guy really knows his pop and slap. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
