Cream were all the best of the best
Zep had JPJ and a very solid drummer. I never thought p and p were their equal.

Cool

I'd like to take this opportunity to request recommendations for Cream songs that display Mr. Bruce's bass powers.

On the matter of Page's guitar skills: I was always more a fan of his acoustic rythm playing than his soloing capabilities. I'm unable to compare the rest because I haven't listened to much Cream. Oh I can say this: I prefer Bruce's vocals way more than Plant's.

Disclaimer: I enjoy Led Zeppelin's music very much. My name is Herrick and I approve this message.

Clapton was at the peak of his powers in Cream and on Layla IMO, but neither he nor Page compare to Jeff Beck, in a class by himself. Of course, Peter Green was pretty damned amazing in Fleetwood Mac with Danny Kirwan. He replaced old Eric in Mayall's Bluesbreakers and did a fairly good job there as well.

Page rocked. Sloppy but so what. It was raw, like it should be. We need more slop today believe me. Just listen to the radio

They're different bands that did completely different things. Personally I thought both of their reunions sounded like some old cats playing in cover groups of their respective bands at some bar on a thursday evening. In their day, I prefer Cream for the interplay between the three of them. But then LZ's solidness cannot be denied. I like them both for their own reasons. I have a lot of respect for Jack Bruce, particularly because of albums like Things We Like, but I should point out that my respect is for him as a PLAYER.

I just watched the DVD of the reunion show in 2007 and was very impressed. It was a thing of beauty to watch JPJ playing bass with his feet while playing keys on songs like Kashmir, Trampled Under Foot, and Stairway. It was also a joy to watch him play a fretless P on In My Time of Dying and a 10-string bass on Nobody's Fault But Mine. I would love to hear an explanation of how "Zeppelin is for non-musicians".
