Anyone read it yet? It seems to be getting good reception.

I figure it has to be a good and interesting read.

What's the title? I can't find anything for an autobiography. A few biographies, but not an autobiography

Not autobiography, I apologize, I wasn't really paying any attention when I typed it.

There was an earlier thread about Bruce's bio...started by Pedro.

I bought & read it on Pedro's glowing review.

I just finished it last night. It's well worth getting, I think.
In addition to learning more about what a versatile, gifted musician he really is, you'll get to read some pretty discouraging things about the music biz.
And the ups and downs with Ginger Baker are very entertaining, I must say.
Jack is one persistent guy.

I found the bio to be very interesting, informative, and a good look at what make him tick. It explains a lot about where the music comes from, and how hard he fights to get the music out to people, despite the way the biz seems to be a huge impediment at times. He's pretty frank about his short-comings when dealing with people, about how the biz has often stymied his attempts to create, produce, and share real music, and the joys of making music with friends.

Highly recommended.

John

I think I'll pick it up soon. I have the opportunity to see Mr. Bruce on the 21st in ATX. Can't decide yet to go.

I guess "Jack Bruce Composing Himself: The Authorized Biography" wasn't enough to attract sellers, so they had to add "Foreword by Eric Clapton" ABOVE the title. I'm not sayin' I'm just sayin'!

I'm reading it currently, I'm not an avid fan of reading so am finding all the background about his parents pretty boring

But I know it will pickup with tales of sex drugs and rock n roll and fretless warwicks

I thought it was entertaining, very detailed (not counting the last decade-and-a-half) and well researched, but I quickly tired of his "difficult" ego disorder. The run-ins with Ginger were particularly embarrassing. Out of your teens, that stuff should get old REAL quick.

Yeah...and then later in the book, it talks about Horacio Hernandez being jailed because he was playing along to Cream's "White Room" .
I wonder if El Negro schooled Bruce on what "real" Communism can d(evolve) into.

True...but a lot of drugs were involved between those two egos. The Baker/Bruce saga should be enough to keep anyone clean.

I was interested in reading more about Bruce's early bands (Alexis Korner & Graham Bond...that was a cookin' band)...I was even more interested to read about West-Bruce-Laing (like, what happened?!?) & Bruce's "jazzier" leanings (with Heckstall-Smith, John Surman, Carla Bley, & Tony Williams).

West-Bruce-Laing, after much ado, pretty much self-destructed.

I found Bruce's Things We Like (acoustic "Free Jazz"...almost) to be pretty credible.

After refreshing my memorywith Bruce's association with David Sancious...I re-visited Snacious' Transformation (The Speed Of Love) album. Whoa...that is a forgotten '70s Fusion classic!
