At first Jack was using the Jazz bass, then switched over to the Guild bass that in 1969, Ron Wickersham (Alembic) wired his and Phil Lesh's basses with low impedance pu's and active electronics.

Amps in those days were Fender Dual Showmans, Standell's with dual 15's and Sunn's, mostly the 2000S models.

If you go to www.alembic.com and get into their history, you'll find more info plus a photo of Jack's first Alembic bass.
