| | | | I did see him live in the early 80's in Nashville, and he had such a great band, and no, he wasn't playing over them, but with them. He blew away a whole room full of folks that night. He will always be a special influence, but like all my influences, he's important, but not the be all and end all. |

That makes no sense. Maybe that bass on youtube with Jonas had the neck from the bass of doom, but the body was quite different and you could buy the custom shop Jaco fretless and it would look just like that. I think that is a new body with maybe the old neck. I realize this is a bit off topic, but, it's like restoring the Mona Lisa so it looks brand new. That would suck. Just my opinion of course. |

Jaco had broken the bass in 3 pieces and Kevin had to put the cap on to put it back together. So, for a while before his death, the Bass of Doom did indeed look like that. |

Since jazz and fusion were never on the list of things I or anyone around me listened to, I never really had any exposure.
Now, it's real easy to find out who he is, and while it's still not my thing, and he'll never be a huge influence, I have great respect for his talent and skill. And I am always willing to learn, even from things that aren't my cup of tea, so I did digest a whole Jaco documentary, just to hear him and listen to what he had to say back then about his approach to bass.

| | | i'm not really a bass player yet ,bought a cheap starcaster last year. i stumbled across jaco after hearing other players mention him, at first i was not blown away until i heard teen town. he was truly a very gifted man.
i can't play any jaco stuff it's just too technical for me at this moment. i don't know how victor got close to playing jaco material at 10 years old as stated in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8yZ23V6YQHI
having looked on youtube for lessons, i came to the conclusion that there is no best bass player just the best known. there is probably some guy in an little known country somewhere playing teen town with his toes, but nobody cares so he remains unknown. |
