On listening to Metheny's 'Bright Size Life' album recently
(I've been listening to it on and off for 30 years) it struck me
that it might be a fretted bass on the track 'Omaha Celebration' --- of course it sounds kind of fretless even when
jaco did play fretted , but have a close listen and see if you hear what I mean .

I often think that people confuse the "Jazz Bass growl" - which can be obtained from fretted or fretless with the "sound of fretless"....
