Jaco Pastorius - Port of Entry

Sign in to disble this ad
super lesson on tone groove and individual voice here, in the short section before the solo, listen to the octave slides he does

barley burping out a few notes, instantly the percussive groove is established and his sound says its him, what more can you do

when he finally does that whole step slide up it just kills - incredible assertion of self with so few notes and that liquid groove is simply phenomenal

Yup, he was incredible, all right.
Along with his technique, knowledge of harmony, etc. (things people always cite about him), he had that HUGE force of personality, which only a handful of greats have.

Yes, Jaco absolutely kills on this tune. The bass solo is a particularly mindblowing section, rivalling "Havona" for note choice, phrasing and beauty! Love it, and the whole "Night Passage" album is very underrated imo!

He has "2 through 10" nailed down.

I was actually listening to POE when i saw this thread...

The fact that he can play so fast for so long just kills me.
One of his best tracks IMO.
