Both are very influential, both are great players, and both are soulful masters of their craft. They are both known for two very different sides of the same coin: Victor is known for many things, but mainly his slapping technique that has been copied the world over and his revolution of the bass as a solo instrument in a way that many other players could only dream of. Jaco was responsible, in a large way, for the promotion of the bass as a forward, leadership instrument in an ensemble, not unlike the revolution that came over bass parts in ensemble writing after Beethoven met Domenico Dragonetti (If I'm not mistaken).
To me, this isn't worth comparing, especially since you gave us nothing to compare. Are we talking tone? gear? Attitude towards music? Soloing style?
Both are responsible for a much-imitated tone and playing style that has irritated and inspired a large chunk of the bass playing population and music as a whole.

Anyone "argued against him" how? Quote:

| | | | Look at it this way, does it really matter? Both of their contributions to the instrument speak for themselves. How about we just dig and listen to both of them as they each have their own voice on the bass, and bassworld is certainly better off because of that!........B2 | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
