about jaco...

i read a great book, it's called 'jaco: the extraordinary and tragic life of jaco pastorius'... great book. it's by bill milkowski. after reading that book i got so inspired and wrote an epic song. following his life and what he went through truely is inspiring. read it and you'll see why. here in the states, i got it at walden books, so i'm sure most of their stores will have them. trust me- it's worth it.

FWIW - If you're ever looking for info about him, try the "ious" spelling, too. There's some good info where his name is misspelled, too.

Jaco

The book sucks. There are many factual errors in it.The pastorius family themselves hate the book also. Its paints Jaco in a negative light ,and that wasnt jaco.It might prove entertaining reading to those who knew little about him,but for those people that actually knew him,the book falls far short of what jaco was all about.

Yes ,i did.I was fortunate enough to meet Jaco through Kevin Kaufman who happened to be Jaco's bass repair guy. This was in early 87 in Lake park florida.Dont get me wrong,i think the book was well written, but is seems to focus so much on the bad things that happened to jaco.I wrote a brief version of my jaco experience on the guestbook at www.jacop.net.Of all the Jaco sites that exist,in my opinion Jacop.net is by far the best. Its a more personal look at jaco. The chat there is also quite good, and if your lucky you even might get to chat with Ingrid,Jaco's wife. She visits quite often.

...but nobody put a gun to his head. He made his own decisions, and some of those decisions were partially based upon mental illness. Jaco is to blame for his chemical dependancy, not Joe, nor Wayne, nor Jaco's dad, nor Tracy, nor Carrot Top.

Okay, maybe Carrot Top.
