Jamerson's Darling Dear isolated bass

Sign in to disble this ad
Just ran across this on youtube. Surprised I hadn't seen it before. It's a stripped down version of Darling Dear that's mostly just vocals and bass so you can hear Jamerson really well. Sorry if this has been posted before, but my search came up empty for this semi-isolated version and let's face it, I don't think any of us could listen to too much Jamerson. Hope you guys dig it.

If I remember correctly "Standing In The Shadows Of Motown" by Dr. Licks has Darling Dear and a number of great Jamerson songs bass-isolated. They were played by a number of modern day players - Will Lee, etc. Also a number of great Jamerson stories by the Funk Brothers. I used to love to listen to it in the car.

True...with SITSOM, you could pan hard left (or right?) to isolate the bass.

I think the OP's link is from The Stripped Mixes by Michael Jackson (issued after he died)-
Amazon.com: The Stripped Mixes: Michael Jackson: Music

Yes, I didn't think it was from the Dr. Licks book/cd, just adding some additional info in case the OP wanted to hear more like these and wasn't familiar with "Standing In The Shadows ..."

I dusted off my Dr. Licks book. Some of the isolated songs with commentary by the guest bassist and sheet music of the bass lines:

What's Going On - James Jamerson Jr; Heard It Through The Grapevine - Will Lee; Ain't Too Proud To Beg - John Entwistle; Reach Out - Phil Chen; I Know I'm Losing You - Pino Palladino; Get Ready - Geddy Lee; Bernadette - Chuck Rainey; How Sweet It Is - John Patitucci; It's The Same Old Song - Jimmy Haslip; I'm The One You Need - Jack Bruce; Darling Dear - Gerald Veasley; I Was Made To Love Her - Marcus Miller. And that's just a partial list
