Anyone ever see this guy play before? All I have to say is WOW! My band opened for the Eric McFadden Trio in Memphis the other night and James Whiton plays upright bass for them and I was completely blown away.

Check out their website @ www.emtmusic.com If they are coming anywhere close to you, make it a point to go see these guys just to check out his bass playing if anything. They are an amazing trio but his playing just blows me away, it's unlike anything I"ve ever seen.

I was in sixth grade with him. His mom played double bass for the Albuquerque symphony orchestra. Bass is in his blood. He actually taught me a little bit about playing drums back then. I think his dad is a drummer.

James Whiton

Totally true!! I got to meet him in Fort Worth, and we talked about our classical backgrounds... I played upright for the Irving Philharmonic, and he explained that his mom taught him the bass from a child, and that he was most happy being able to play rock and roll making money than all the classical gigs. Should be called the James Whiton Trio than Eric McFadden Trio!! Listen to Meriah, it sounds like a fretless, but he is rocking a cheap yamaha student electric upright! (He also keeps Eric's ear in tune). Go see these guys play!!

James Whiton is a MONSTER. I've been listening to the Joy of Suffering for a couple months, and his use of Uprighht in a rock setting is phenomenal and very different. I just love his line on "Miranda". Would love to see the EMT come to this neck of the woods.

I think of him as THE BEST in upright bass rock in roll in the 2000's. Of course, this really means Electric Upright Bassist in 2000's. He mixes jazz, rock, and classical. With a perfect ear. Take note electric bass people!!! The future is coming now, and soon we (EUB) players, will play a major part in rock n roll, not to mention taking over philharmonics, as well as, and more importantly, teaching double bass to the majority, in schools, using cheaper electric models to the masses!! This means a great deal with all the cost cutting to schools; the upright bass being the first to go with its higher cost to other string instruments. Food for thought... Look at the Ergo bass...
