It's official. From www.jamiroquai.co.uk: "Paul Turner, bass player and newest member of Jamiroquai joined the band in April 2005. Born in Sunderland, England, he's been a full time professional musician since 1987. After auditioning with the band earlier in the year, Jay offered Paul the gig.
Before joining Jamiroquai Paul spent two years recording and touring the world with Annie Lennox. He's also played gigs with Omar, Mica Paris and urban jazz funk band "Down To The Bone", which has had great success in the States."
Paul Turner has been a successful UK session player for some time, playing with the likes of George Michael, Robert Palmer, Take That, Boyzone, Geri Halliwell, Eternal, Annie Lennox etc.
Jamiroquai were on TV last night playing the new single. I hadn't heard it before - it was okay. Paul was pretty low-profile, but could be seen playing an old Fender Jazz (white with rosewood board) through an Aguilar stack. A good fat tone, better than the fuzzy bassline on the record. Hopefully this bodes well for the future album and tour. www.funkin.com has some good audio/video downloads of the new lineup.

I can't wait to hear the new disc. I've always dug Jay's vibe... and his choice in bassists. |

I have nothing against taking another musical direction, but the music doesn't cut it imo. The new Snoop feat Justin Timberlake song, now thats a funky tune! |

Couldn't see the cabs too clearly, but it's a tall stack that he's using. Perhaps a 4x10 and a 1x12 together? |

| | | | Stu left because his partner Mel was pregnant and Jamiroquai were about to go on tour, and also the money factor I imagine. He's working on a band called Leroy at the moment, much more chilled stuff, less funky, but pretty cool. Apparently got funding from Leo DiCaprio who somehow knows one of the guys in Leroy... |

Definitely an old-school, 70s funk flair that was as instrumental to their original vibe as any one member of the band.
On a related note, I dig Down to the Bone, so I'd be interested in hearing their new stuff, provided the bassist isn't completely marginalized.

. | But they were just the same live, when they had Stuart and Toby - if anything, they were better live!!
Nowadays, they are just a vehicle for Jay's ego....

I don't think they're ever gonna be the same without Toby really, I mean the track I heard on JR was good - It just wasn't Jamiroquai any more.

Now, it's so obviously just Jay Kay, with session musicians!

Well think how many people think Jay's name is Jamiroquai?
But no one would recognize him without a stupid hat/moving floor.
