I really like what this guy is up to on the bass. I hope you'll check it out!

I didn't think much of that.

But here is someone really killing it with a Fodera!

Playing along with a Jaco track is cool, and for a guy that looks so young, he's really good. But I find Janek to be playing some great melodic lines, and he's improvising them. Different ball game, entirely. The guy transcribes horn solos all day long, and it shows. I think players like this are showing where the electric bass is going. He can groove, he can solo, he can improvise, comp. . .

Janek is one of my favorite players live. His shows with Mike Stern at 55 bar are amazing. He has a great melodic sense and great chops. Check out his own band for his composing skills. My sax player attended Berklee with him and says he was "the Bass Cat" there. His versatility also should be recognized.

With a name like Janek Gwizdala, he's got to be good.

(Meaning the record co's didn't see a need to Americanize his name for accessibility)

Matt Garrison and Hadrien Feraud are really at the forefront of this new wave of players (Matt has been on the scene for a while but is finally starting to get the recognition he deserves). They are doing frightening things, especially Hadrien, for one so young!

I think Janek is the most melodic of the new breed of bass players - really great stuff!
