I think he did an awesome job on the new album. It's such a bass driven record, from over drives, to mellow tones, to pitch shifting, and reverbs and delays. If you haven't check it out yet, it's called "Only by the Night" and I highly recommend it for bass tones and creative ways to make tasteful, interesting bass lines in a modern rock band. |

The tone isn't obnoxious but instead invites itself to be heard. I can't comment on much of KoL's music, but that individual song and his performance of it is definitely a winner in my book.

But I totally agree- we just did our initial/preproduction mixes and by the time we got done with the whole thing I completely forgot I just went straight through my JDI into an API pre and then EQ'd and it sounded awesome. Didn't even reamp or really process it at all (yet). When we start doing the "real" album here in a few weeks we will but yeah, with the right guy a straight DI or combo signal can work wonders.
Also Jared always has had great toane. I'm a fan. |

| | | | Love the band, but yes they're very arrogant. Jared HAD to learn how to play bass because it was his only option after the Singer and Drummer had been signed. (Lead guitarist (their cousin) already knew guitar. Jared had to play bass.)
He hates bass so much (or used to) he gets those tones you speak of to pull off more of a lead baritone guitar part in songs, rather than "bass".
This thread is a tad older, and their new album "Come Around Sundown" has been out for a few months now. My problem with Jared, is all he knows how to do is riffs with octave's. It's in almost every song. Because he want's a more lead baritone guitar sound. Good song writers, terribly mediocre bassist. IMO. The bass lines started out tasteful and original, and now it's just played out.

but yeah, they've pulled some dick moves. cancelling a show outright because of birds pooping was insanity.
