Jason Newsted, UPDATE!

We are putting finishing touches on the yet to be named new record, due this spring. Jason Newsted ended up playing on all the bass tracks and plans to have Eric and Blacky also play on it were put aside for another project down the road. This album will mark the end of the Voivod songs Piggy wrote and performed, there are other songs from Piggy yet to be released, that he wrote for himself and other projects. We will release a DVD of our first ever performance in Japan, featuring all early Voivod material with Blacky on bass and Dan Mongrain on Guitar. We would like to extend our condolences to the family of Adrian Bromley, who was up until recently Voivod’s publicist at The End records for the past 4 years. His enthusiasm and knowledge of music and all things metal will be sorely missed. More news and artwork to be posted soon.

I forgot to mention that Jason wanted to play the bass parts on the new album in the spirit of the songs written by Voivod Mach 3.
At first he thought my idea of having Eric and Blacky play on it was great.
Then he realised that he grew attached to the songs since he was part of the writing and demoing process with Piggy, Snake and I in 2004. I really respect his decision. I must add that he feels bad for Eric, Blacky and all the Voivodians.
I'm sure we'll find a way to get everybody involved in the future, with Dan Mongrain onboard.
Only 2 songs for Snake to sing and we're done!

Away

Great to hear Jason's back in action - nice to see Blacky too!

Definitely, I always felt he was the only "cool" guy in that pop band he was in for so long. I was so happy when he finally moved on.

I really like Jason Newsted's playing, I wish the best for him. He makes me wish I could play guitar so I could be in a band with him.

Good to hear Newsted is back in action. I always thought he was criminally overbashed in Metallica.

When Ellefson left Megadeth, I kinda hoped that Newsted would join up with Mustaine so that I could ROLF and hear all the pissin and moaning from Lars.
