Jason Scheff

Hello to all fellow TBers!

I saw Chicago two summers ago with Jason Scheff playing bass for them and thought he did a great job! I mean it would be hard to jump into a legendary band like that replacing one of its founding members (Peter Cetera), but he has done a great job and fits in well.

What are your opinions of him as a player? If you have seen Chicago live with him playing bass, what did you think?

Yep, saw him two years ago when Chicago was touring with Earth, Wind & Fire. Awsome show! They have a DVD out from that tour. Well worth buying if you're a fan. Jason is a top notch player who has been in the band for over twenty years which is longer than PC was with the band. Of course some folks won't like the new version of the band but IMO it's a top notch group.

Well I did not know that he had been with the band for that long! I guess you learn something new everyday!

He's a way better bass player than he shows with Chicago. He even slaps very well. Anyone who can sing lead and play bass well gets an A+ in my book. Sting, Cetera, Nathan East, Macca, etc. I dig well rounded bass players.

I have that Chicago/EW&F DVD, it reminds me how far Jason has come s since he started with the band - I saw him on that first tour when he was still struggling with some high notes. I usually think of Jason, Cetera, and Jim Fielder of BS&T as a class of bassists we won't see again in pop music.

*** ZOMBIE THREAD ALERT ***

I saw Chicago and EWF in Allentown, PA last month. Jason blew me away. Both his playing and his vocals were beyond top notch. I never disliked Chicago, but they were always kind of an afterthought. I went to see EWF and just planned on "tolerating" Chicago! Since that show, I'm a big fan. They were amazing!

Jason is a hell of a bass player, vocalist, and a great guy in general. His dad Jerry is also a great musician - he played with Elvis, and is still working as far as I'm aware.

Yeah, Jerry's a monster bad-assed player. Elvis, The Doors, and heaps of other big names. The Elvis - Live at Madison Square Gardens should be required listening for every bassist. That's great that his son is carrying the family tradition.
