Surely they must be related? Jason, the singer / bassist with Chicago and Jerry, the Vegas bass player for Elvis? Anyone help? |

Interesting that he's not holding his signature model in that photo with Jason...

I'm not a huge fan of Jason, BTW. He's a good bassist and a good singer, but he's no Peter Cetera on either. I find his playing a little on the wimpy side, like he's almost afraid to stand out. Jerry Scheff, on the other hand, is one of my idols. He owned the Elvis band, and his session work is every bit as good as Duck or Jamerson. |

I've heard some solo pieces and some other searing bass work that he's done in concert with Chicago, as well as with his own groups that would knock your socks off. Jason's a monster player, but doesn't get a chance to share that side of his playing much within the confines of a Chicago concert, or for the general population outside of his hometown LA gigs and such. |

But I have that Chicago/EWF DVD, and even though Chicago sounded great, I thought Verdine blew him off the stage. But you've seen him in other contexts, and I have no reason to doubt that he's a fine player outside of Chicago. Then again, maybe it's because Cetera was so strong and maybe I'm judging Jason by Pete's standards. |

| | | | I'm glad to hear Cetera's as respected as he is on this forum. He was a great player and singer (Check out almost anything on their first 5 releases). I think Jason is OK, but I hate the faces he makes when he's singing. It looks contrived to me. |

I have to disagree about Verdine. I think he' stoo busy smiling (which is freakier than Jasons faces IMHO) to play the lines he used to or does on recordings. I have seen a couple different videos where another bass player is clearly playing off stage. |

Jason's a very good player. Here's a performance of "Beginnings" where I really like his bass work, it's MUCH more groovin' than the original. Just ignore the mullets(!), then ignore the extended drum solo. http://www.dailymotion.com/relevance...ginnings_music

| | | | Scheff I think Jason is a great player. I think for me, it's a matter of growing up with Kath and Cetera. Nobody can replace either of them. As far as Verdine goes. In his day he was the funkiest of the funkiest!! What an increditble talent. |

Morris Pleasure is usually playing side stage or someone else is 'ghosting' backstage. I've seen several DVD's of EW&F and his hands never leave the first 2 frets of his bass. Plus he's doing way too much dancing and running around. For EW&F, it's been about the show production for many years now. |

| | | | I went to he Chicago concert & Jerry blew the others away in my opinion. He cut loose and let it fly, on another level. Playing with that "claw" technique. His growl was incredible as well.
Great show. Underrated bassist. |
