He really was on point and his line up was right on point with him.
I told him if he could get that line up on the jam band scene that they would really embrace him. |

And as far as expanding beyond the norm, it's really just me doing what is most natural for me. Most kats have no clue about how to be themselves on their instrument. I feel a lot of it has to do with the fact that it's far more easier to copy and sound like another than realize that we are all born with our own voices but a lot of times the voice gets side tracked with fear. Most bass players know that they have a voice of their own but they really don't posses any warrior traits and just settle for sounding like their hero, especially when people start telling them that they sound so much like their hero. I do have my own voice and thanks for recognizing it. Having my voice has been a main focus of mine from the very first time I started playing bass. Most humans hearing is jaded, they sub consciously absorb so much of what they like that if some thing sounds unfamiliar to them then they don't hear it or at the least have the energy to check it out.
This is hands down the best interview I have ever done. http://www.thunderrow.com/content.ph...Life-and-Music
And please tell your posse I said thanks for the love.
bThumper38;13492658 (Brian) played in one of my bands for a while in the mid to late 90's and he will tell you that I would push the importance of being your self and developing your own voice. Quote:

Thank you and Detroit was definitely a blast. |

| | | | Really enjoyed what you had to say. That and wow....can't believe good of a player that you and the Detroit players are!! I'd feel SO out of place hanging around you guys. I'm nowhere near the league you guys are in, but it's still very inspiring!
Surpsised you know Lamont Johnson! I heard him play a few times in the 80's when he was in "Brainstorm." Good grief, but that band was HOT! Lamont was and still is one of the best players I've ever heard and is a real gentleman in every sense of the word. After met him I even took a few lessons from him back around that time. For as great as he is I never once felt intimidated when I was with him because he's so humble and easy going.
Wishing you all the best, Jauqo! |

And here's a pic of me and Ralphe Armstrong. A true legend who is still going strong in the game of bass.

One can really feel that playing bass and making music for you is life. You have a way to look at playing bass that borders with philosophy. And yes, the Thunder Row interview is great. |

Love your talk about the pocket, that seems to be the hardest thing to talk about to younger drummers... They get so caught up into bands like dream theater and they miss a lot of great pocket playing...

Thank you Maurizio and thanks for recognizing my honesty and passion. And my life lessons really are in my playing. I'm glad I came up during a time in modern music history when all day and every day no matter what genre, there was great music coming out. Quote:

Thank you Ruly. It seems like a lot of kats don't even want to know what the pocket is or even care about the pocket. In my clinics I put a strong emphasis on the development of the pocket and the importance of the pocket and how it's the life line thru out the heart of the music. |

His band and mine shared an excellent guitar player named Joey Jones. Back then Joey was the bomb and he still plays today as a Christian Smooth Jazz Artist. Check him out on the web. My band was called Red Sun LTD and was from North Philly. Back then Jamaal was known as Rudy McDaniel and he was a force even as a teenager. We are still assoicates today. Rudy/Jamaal played on a Ric back then. He was always a differnt kind of guy even way back when :-)
