Jazz bassists to refresh my ears.

I've been listening to a lot of jazz or fusion players. Especially the typical SMV and JOhn Patitucci. But lately I've been craving to listen to something different. Can you recommend some "jazz" bassists, preferably electric to listen to it?

Victor Bailey, Felix Pastorius (Jaco's son), Jaco Pastorius, Gary Willis, Marcus Miller (especially 'The Sun Don't Lie'), and Steve Swallow. I do find that most of the recordings with Steve could be better served by turning him up in the mix. I love his playing, but hate his recorded sound 95% of the time. Not enough presence!

+1 for Avishai, get the live dvd, it's awesome.

Another recommendation is Tony Grey, he has a few but excellent CDs under his name. He plays w/ Hiromi, a Jazz Fusion pianist. Her CDs are very refreshing, all featuring Tony on bass.

One more recommendation would be the 'Bass extremes' dvd featuring Wooten & Bailey. Awesome composition + phenomenal playing.

I'm a big fan of Jimmy Johnson, but for someone different, how about Carles Benavent:

Check out Christian McBride's "Live at Tonic". He plays fretless BG, plucked upright, and bowed upright, sometimes with effects, and just kills it.

Also check out Jimmy Haslip with Yellowjackets.

And how could I forget Ralphe Armstrong with Jean Luc Ponty?
