Jazz Players Known for the Neck Pickup?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey I'm a long time Jbass player who generally uses either both pickups full or favors the bridge pickup. To me, this is the Jazz sound. You have guys like Marcus Miller who brought the both pickups dimed sound to light and Jaco who really brought the bridge burp to the mainstream. But are there any players who used Jazz basses who are known for using mainly the neck pup?

Any well known recordings that were on a J with the neck soloed/favored?

Interested to know.

Esperanza Spalding. She usually plays upright, but she also plays a fretless jazz, neck pickup, strung with flats. Right below this one.

Joe Osborn. All his stuff ("Aquarious/Let The Sunshine In" by The 5th Dimension, all of the "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" alum by Simon & Garfunkle including the incomprable "Only Livin' Boy In New York", all The Carpenters stuff, etc. is his '60 Jazz with the neck PUP soloed.
