She named 'Tal Wilkenfeld' from Autrailia.
21 years old female bassist and already has her own album. (she composed all songs and produced the album by herself!)

she preformed with Chick Corea, Jeff Beck, the Allman Brothers band, Leni Stern, Russel Ferrante, Susan Tedeschi, Hiram Bullock, Kenwood Dennard, Adam Deitch and Dave Kikoski.
And she is Sadowsky endorsing artist.

She's very young and I know many people saying she's not that 'great' musician.
However, she knows how to play bass. i love her play. really awesome.

DWbass was right, she does make great bass faces. Her tone is gorgeous. She shredded a bit too much for my taste on her solo, but she is only 21. At that age, who doesn't speed?

I saw her for the first time jamming with Otiel Burbridge and some others on a video a year ago and she amazed me that a young girl like that could play at that level. I almost quit playing bass all together. It's enough to question how good you really think you are.

The solos are too "shred" filled for me tastes and lose the groove feel. She is a good player regardless of age, she will get the less is more feel as she gets more experience.

I think she is a pretty decent player, she has some good chops and technique. I wouldn't say she overplays, she just does what she does.

The thing I ask myself is would she be getting such a big hyping if she wasn't a 21 year old girl from Australia? There are literally thousands of bass players than can play like her out there. I wonder if half the reason she is getting such high profile gigs is that she is a bit of a novelty and helps to raise the profile of the people she plays with in return.

As far as her musical approach, I ask myself this. If I was given that particular concert with Jeff Beck in an audio only format and I was told that it was Marcus Miller playing, is there anything that would make me believe it was untrue? The conclusion I come to is not really. Marcus Miller is good and all but there probably only needs to be one Marcus Miller, I am personally looking forward to hearing who Tal Wikenfeld is. Good luck to her though it's nice to see that someone from Australia is able to make thier way working with such a high standard of musicians.

Lots of other bass player were playing with Chick Corea before Jeff Beck and at 22 has their first CD out. Face it she's dam good and her career is just starting.

Hard to understand exactly what you're saying.
Saying more 22 year olds with their first CD out have played with Chick? Before Jeff Beck, what does that mean?

I don't really know whether that challenges or affirms the point I am making though. I mean yeah, she can play. Is the fuss about her as a player though? If so what is it about her playing that's so different or groundbreaking that sets her apart?

Has anyone said that there was anything groundbreaking about her?
I always hear ..."there's that young female bassist playing with jeff beck..." .
It may have a certain appeal, but to my mind is not in the least groundbreaking.
She's also not the first young bassist to land a "very nice" gig Darryl jones joined miles davis's group when he was 19, I believe. Marcus Miller was of similar age when he joined miles davis's group.
Wasn't victor baily very young when he played bass in weather report?
That may be besides the point , but all three of these sounded a lot more mature when of similar ages.
Oh...and did I mention Anthonyjackson on the 70's chaka kahn recordings?
To my liking she's good but tends to overplay. But that's taste.
Nice tone tough on some of it
I'm curous to see what goes on once the young FEMALE bassist hype has passed.

Hey, weīre talking about gigs like Jeff Beck, Chick Corea and the like. At that level, you donīt get hired because you have a pretty face. You get hired because you can deliver the goods - chops, tone, time, musicality, professional attitude. Plus from what Iīve read, she seems to be a genuinely nice, down-to-earth person, and thatīs always a bonus.

I don't know, there seem to be a lot of arbitrary factors there. No one denied she can play, or is professional, or she can "deliver the goods". Whether she is nice is completely beside the point though, and I am making a point that there is something selling her as a "hot commodity" where every second established musician wants to get her onstage with them. I just can't see that it's because she does anything obviously that sets her apart from a lot of other musicians out there. Chick Corea and Jeff Beck play a lot of gigs and every bassplayer they hire aren't getting the acclaim Tal Wilkenfeld is getting. Trust me if you were in the position to hire someone whose profile would add to your audience, you would, so your claim that having a pretty face has nothing to do with it is not necessarily entirely true. Obviously if that was all she had going for her she wouldn't be there. I'm not really trying to undermine her ability at all really, this is just my commentary on how the cult of personality can bias the way people perceive things.
