"The Love you save" live in 1971, Jermaine Jackson playing his Candy Apple red Fender Jazz through a Jaco-approved Acoustic stack and listen to that sound.

In the Jackson family values series Jermaine expressed his frustrations on not being allowed to play on the Jackson 5 albums they recorded for Motown, this was because of Berry Gordy knowing what he'd get if he enlisted the Funk brothers to do the recording for them and didn't want to take chances with teenagers wearing guitars and wanting to do things their own way.

Much to their credit though: Tito and Jermaine DID play those tracks live when the J5 were touring. Proving themselves to be equals to the studio musicians that played on their albums. Eventually the Jackson 5 decided to leave Motown so they could have a greater creative input concerning their own material. They had to change their band name though since Gordy owned the rights to "Jackson 5"

it's bit hard to listen to "that sound" as it sounds awful (talkin about sound of that youtube video itself ) as for fender jazz combined with acoustic, it's GREAT!!!

Actually, one small correction. The Funk Brothers didn't really play on the J-5 stuff, with the exception of Jamerson on "Darling Dear." Most of their material was recorded in L.A. But I get the spirit of what you're saying, in that Berry wanted his house band to play the instruments, as they had a proven track record.

If anyone hasn't heard it yet, Motown released "Live At The Forum" last year. It's 2 J-5 concerts. one from 1970, the other from 1972. One the '72 show, Jermaine is KILLING it !! Check it out...

JJ sounds like a cross between Jamerson & Jack Bruce on those Live At The Forum cds.

In the liner notes/booklet, the J5 are shown moving their own equipment.
Gotta love guys that schlep their own gear!
